EQUINE ASSISTED LEARNING

growth through partnership & connection
About our Equine Assisted Learning program

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a groundwork (unmounted) program that will guide and support participants in realizing their learning strengths and growth and development goals while working with the horse as a partner.

Activities in this program can target personal and academic goals, such as confidence, communication skills, attention and focus, empathy, problem-solving, self-awareness, trust, spatial organization, adaptation to change, assertiveness, relationship skills, and many more!

EAL activities with the horse take place in a closed arena, one-on-one for privacy. Challenges with the horse are done on the ground and do not require riding. An introduction to safety and communication with the horse builds confidence and partnership. The horse’s participation and response during the sessions provides valuable feedback for reflection. The instructor begins the activity by discussing a focus for the session and finishes with a reflection on the outcome and the client’s learning. This may take place in the office for privacy during the discussion. Clients may record their learning in a journal.

Students with Individual Education Plans (IEP) or Educational Assessments and Home School students can better understand their strengths and challenges.
