THERAPEUTIC RIDING
an adapted recreational activity
About our Therapeutic Riding program
Therapeutic riding is an equine-assisted activity that helps individuals with cognitive, communication, or motor differences to develop equine-related skills from a recreational or sports perspective.
The program includes activities such as handling the horse, grooming, riding, driving, and vaulting, which help participants increase self-awareness, work on behaviours, improve self-confidence, gain independence, work as a team, and develop intrapersonal and interpersonal abilities.
Équi-Libre's riding instructors are certified by the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) and have specialized training to make the activity safe, fun, and challenging for each rider, including those who are minimally autonomous or have no diagnosis. Our occupational therapists work with our instructors to set individual objectives for each rider to optimize growth and success while riding as part of our interdisciplinary approach.
